Product Manager, Digital Consulting

Remote, United States
/
$150,000 to $190,000 per year

The role

BD Emerson is seeking an experienced professional to help grow our digital consulting practice. This is a client-facing consulting role, embedded in client engagement teams across industries and business functions rather than building a single internal product. The ideal candidate combines strong product management expertise with hands-on delivery experience in a consulting environment and the ability to build trusted relationships with clients. This individual will have a proven record of working and collaborating with clients to shape and execute product and technology strategies that transform their businesses through disruptive digital solutions.

As we expand our team, we are looking for passionate, results-oriented professionals who excel at solving complex problems and delivering measurable business value for our clients. The strongest candidates are adept at project delivery, thrive in ambiguous and complex environments, and bring deep, demonstrated experience bringing solutions to market.

This is a remote role open to candidates anywhere in the United States. Travel to client sites runs up to 50% of the time, based on client need.

What the role includes

You will help our clients define and deliver the digital products, platforms, and capabilities needed to execute their business strategies, and support the execution of multi-year, complex transformations. Working alongside designers, architects, engineers, data specialists, and business stakeholders, you will help shape product vision, guide delivery decisions, and align technology investments to business outcomes.

This role goes beyond traditional product management. Successful candidates are comfortable discussing customer needs and business priorities and engage confidently on architecture, integration, and data flow discussions. They understand how systems fit together and weigh technical trade-offs to help teams make informed decisions across the product lifecycle. As AI and modern development tooling continue to reshape how products are designed and delivered, the strongest candidates pair this strategic thinking with systems-level reasoning to move complex initiatives from concept to implementation.

You are a strong product thinker who can define roadmaps, prioritize investments, synthesize user and market insights, and guide teams through difficult product and technology decisions. In equal measure, you are a delivery leader who can manage scope, timelines, budgets, dependencies, and stakeholder expectations while maintaining a clear understanding of commercial objectives and delivery economics.

As a consultant, you are credible and comfortable in front of clients, build trusted client relationships, communicate clearly, and understand the consulting business model. In addition, you will play a key role shaping the growth and expansion strategy of the digital consulting business, including practice development and recruiting, business development, and corporate development activities.

Key responsibilities

  • Support client engagements by leading segments of the delivery teams, monitoring progress, and ensuring successful project execution
  • Facilitate discussions with technical, design, and business subject-matter resources, documenting requirements, establishing a vision, and leading product delivery and launch efforts
  • Translate client needs into clear product requirements and specifications, including FRDs, PRDs, and technical specs, and guide engineering teams through the resulting trade-off decisions
  • Oversee design, development, and deployment teams to ensure alignment to product requirements and adherence to client timelines
  • Own engagement economics (scope, schedule, and budget), manage cross-team dependencies, and escalate risks with clear mitigation options
  • Provide expert guidance on product management, delivery, and software development best practices
  • Participate in pursuits, write statements of work, and manage scope-change requests
  • Mentor and develop junior team members, fostering collaboration, mutual respect, and continuous learning
  • Work effectively with client engagement teams of diverse skills and backgrounds, fostering an innovative and inclusive work environment
  • Build and maintain long-term client relationships and networks, and cultivate business development opportunities

How we expect you to use AI

AI is a tool, and we expect the people on our teams to use AI assistants such as Claude and ChatGPT fluently to draft FRDs, PRDs, and technical specifications, to brainstorm and pressure-test ideas, and to move faster across research, analysis, and delivery. Just as importantly, we expect the judgment to scrutinize and refine what these tools produce rather than accepting it at face value. We have seen over-reliance on AI, and accepting its outputs at face value falls short of the standard this role demands. The professionals we want understand how AI is reshaping software delivery and team collaboration, treat AI output as a first draft to be validated against real client context, and take full ownership of the quality of the final result. Experience with AI-enabled products is a plus.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with 5+ years of experience in the consulting industry and a distinctive record of professional achievement and impact
  • Manager-level (or equivalent title) experience at a tier-one consulting firm, or an equivalent-level position in industry
  • Track record of leading product development from concept to launch with global, multidisciplinary digital teams
  • Demonstrated experience setting product vision, defining and managing roadmaps, prioritizing and managing backlogs, conducting user research and market discovery, and leading product launches
  • A systems mindset for reasoning about integrations and how components fit together
  • Hands-on technical depth, including direct experience shipping integrations and working with APIs, cloud architecture, and modern platform components, sufficient to engage engineering teams credibly on design decisions
  • Strong understanding of Agile and Scrum methodologies
  • Experience managing scope, timelines, budgets, and delivery outcomes for a workstream or product initiative across a range of commercial models, with an understanding of P&L impact, resourcing trade-offs, cross-team dependencies, and proactive risk management
  • Experience supporting pursuits and drafting statements of work
  • Experience mentoring and developing junior consultants
  • Fluency with AI assistants (for example, Claude and ChatGPT) as everyday working tools, and ideally experience with AI-enabled products
  • Excellent problem-solving, decision-making, and analytical skills
  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas to diverse business and technical audiences, both verbally and in writing
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain client relationships and to work effectively with people at all levels of an organization
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Exceptional attention to detail to ensure the highest standards of quality in all client deliverables
  • Domain experience across the financial services sectors (banking and capital markets, insurance, wealth and investment management, private equity) is preferred
  • Willingness to travel based on client need, up to 50%
